Sometimes dining with kids can be an ordeal, especially when they’re bored and hungry. If you want to keep the whole family happy, look no further. Movenpick on the Cairns Esplanade has got your sweet tooth covered!

Located on the Esplanade, Movenpick is a great little café offering all things sweet. They use only fresh ingredients in their Swiss ice cream, offering unique taste sensations with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. We were surprised to learn that there was a whole lot more on offer aside from the vast range of Swiss ice creams, they offer so many other delicious options too.

It is not only the food that is wholesome here but also the business itself. We were greeted at the shop front by Ian, husband of Theresa (Movenpick’s Manager). Ian and his staff’s warm hello and friendly acknowledgment of all our kids.

We were moved when we learnt that Movenpick is run as a social enterprise. Movenpick (via local orginasation, Anglicare) provides opportunities to young people experiencing hardship, helping them overcome barriers to employment in the local community, training young people to be work ready and able to maintain sustainable employment.

Anglicare has supported local young people within the Cairns Community since 1985 and through its suite of Community Outreach Services focuses on face-toface customer interaction providing opportunities for participants to prepare for the workplace.

Some of the toughest critics in the world, our kids, were eager to wrap their lips around some ice-cream and their eyes (OK all the adults too) all lit up as smiling faces delivered plates of pure deliciousness. First up was the Belgian Chocolate Brownie, served with Blueberry Cheesecake & Swiss Chocolate ice creams.

This plate looked like a piece of art and was completely devoured in less than 10 seconds!

The Belgian Waffles soon followed topped with Vanilla Dream and Strawberry ice creams, these square pillows of goodness literally melted in our mouths.

To end the afternoon on a high note is an understatement! Ian himself passed around delectable chocolate milkshakes, “Mmm, this tastes amazing mum”, Kade squealed as he gulped down his milkshake.

Movenpick should be so proud of their achievements, not only with the fabulous food but also with their amazing employees who we had the pleasure of being served by. Impeccable service with genuine warmth, and managing to get those delectable delicacies down on to the table successfully with seven kids vying to have first taste was no mean feat.

Their extensive menu could work for breakfast with pancakes and waffles, through to a late night treat. Pick from their huge selection of ice cream, sorbets, take home tubs, fondue sharing plates, warm chocolate brownie and so much more. We will be back.
