1. Dairy Farmers Malanda Show

This year’s Dairy Farmers Malanda Show is set to thrill, entertain and engage people of all ages.  The three-day agricultural show will take place on June 24 – 26 which is the first weekend of the school holidays. Perfect timing for families from afar to plan a trip to the Atherton Tablelands.  It promises to be an event not to be missed, jam-packed full of fun and merriment, including a farmer’s challenge, animal nursery, street parade, and milking challenges. 2. Permaculture & Sustainability Expo

Wallaby Creek Festival is hosting the Permaculture & Sustainability Expo on 2 July. There will be presenters, workshops and stalls, plus music, a community bar, and pizza oven throughout the evening. It will make for a great start to the school holidays, especially if you’ve got a bunch wanting to know more about living sustainably and off the land.

3. Cairns Art Gallery

The Cairns Art Gallery is running a variety of workshops and classes throughout July with a range of mediums including paints, sculpture and more. Bookings are essential so check online for upcoming classes and costs. The gallery Creative Term Classes will also be running July to August. They will include painting, watercolour, mixed media, and drawing. Suitable for children aged 4 – 14. Check online for more details.

4. Cairns Museum

The Cairns Museum, along with its usual attractions, frequently runs holiday programs, workshops,
kids tours, and other family fun activities.

NAIDOC Week Cultural Workshop. Get up! Stand up! Show up!

5 July – 6 July, 10.30am – 11.30am. Free with entry for a member child. $6.00 for a non-member child. Adults attending the workshop with children are free, however it’s $15.00 for adults wishing to enter the museum galleries. Celebrate NAIDOC Week with Miriki Performing Arts! Known for their amazing cultural workshops for children, Miriki will facilitate a series of fun activities based around Indigenous language, movement, music and more. Bookings are essential.

Yidinji Word Challenge

Well worth a drive and only an hour from Cairns, Gallo Dairyland is a go to this break. 25. Cairns Aquarium 

As the only aquarium in the world exclusively dedicated to the habitats and species of Tropical North Queensland, visiting is a great way to keep the kids learning during the break. 29. The Reef Eye Ferris Wheel

The Reef Eye Ferris Wheel returns to the Cairns Esplanade to kick off the school holidays from 24 June. The brand new, state of the art 35-metre high Ferris Wheel, offers 360 degree views through fully enclosed, plexiglass-wrapped gondolas, and a fully illuminated hotel style frontage and flight deck. During operation, tickets are able to be purchased both online and in person at the rides ticket box. $8.00 per child, $10.00 per adult or $50.00 for a group of six in a private gondola.

34. Junior Golf at Cairns Golf Club

Cairns Golf Club offers school holiday programs that span over two days from 9.00am – 3.00pm each day of the school holidays. Includes lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea.
