This is assuming the relationship really is over (and the relationship is not one where there is violence, drug or alcohol abuse):

  • First, work out what your expenses are, what your financial position is and gather together all financial documents.
  • Try and have a civil discussion with your partner about how you will each meet the expenses until property matters can be resolved.
  • If you have children, work out what arrangements can be made for the children to see each parent. Additionally, work out how you can best minimise the distress of separation for them.
