Hold onto your hats…the fun, fashion and racing of Cairns Amateurs Carnival is back in 2022 with a stellar line up of track and waterfront marquee events befitting Far North Queensland’s pinnacle social event of the year.

With state and territory borders open and planes touching down, the 64th anniversary of Cairns Amateurs is set to smash 2021 records with strong bookings including a sporting group of 60 from Victoria. From Thursday 8 to Saturday 10 September 2022, the tropical infused program of trackside events offers excellent value for money while waterfront favourites, the Captain Morgan Tropical Fashion High Tea, and ANZ Cairns Amateurs Gala Ball, are designed to hit all the high notes of fashion and glamour.

Launching today, the 2022 Cairns Amateurs Carnival program highlights also include President’s Welcome Cocktail Party and a suite of trackside packages for the two-day race meeting including an all-inclusive membership package for two people across both days.

With just 80 of 560 tickets remaining, notable among this year’s highlights is the gala ball that this year takes its cue from ringmaster PT Barnum celebrated in the biographical musical drama, The Greatest Showman.

This year’s ball is much loved for its unique and winning blend of live music and entertainment, three course sit down dinner from Ochre Restaurant and Catering, fireworks and fundraising auction with benefits supporting Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation.

Cairns Amateurs President David Goodman said the event’s branding ‘Racing on the Great Barrier Reef’ maintains its relevance in 2022 and is designed to take advantage of southern markets and open borders.

“Spring is the perfect time to visit Cairns. Sunny days with a light breeze and cool nights provide the perfect conditions to dress up and enjoy a fun afternoon trackside or glamorous evening under the stars.”

Not surprisingly, Cairns Amateurs is a powerful drawcard for visitors to this region and punches well above its weight in providing great memories – not just your habitual racegoers or fashion-set but anyone looking for a good time in the great outdoors.

“The colourful, celebratory atmosphere of Amateurs, where city and country collide, is a truly special quality that gives the event its iconic status. Preserving this history while evolving its future is a fine balance and a responsibility to the community that we take seriously,” Mr Goodman said.

According to Mr Goodman, this year’s Cairns Amateurs Carnival just so happens to coincide with the 2022 Cricket One Day International Series between Australia and New Zealand which provides mutually-beneficial marketing opportunities. Special guests attending the Cairns Amateurs Carnival in 2022 include Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, honorary Patron, Bart Sinclair OAM and Carnival Ambassador, Em Scodellaro.

With two months until kick off, online bookings for Cairns Amateurs events are now open. General carnival admission is $25.00 per person and membership packages are just $328.00 for two people. All tickets and events can be booked and purchased online at www.cairnsamateurs.org.au
