Luckily, we know how tricky it can get to come up with ideas when the kids inevitably pull out the ‘I’m bored’ card, so we have created the ultimate list of summer activities for local parents, children and families – to stay entertained and having fun together.

3. Child’s World Early Learning Centre

Child’s World Early Learning Centres not only accommodate children from the age of six weeks old (Nursery) to Kindergarten/Preschool, they also do vacation care for children up to the age of 12 years. School Holiday Vacation Care includes cooked and nutritious meals, fun excursions, a home bus service on request and more, starting from just $13.00 a day. 4. Laserfun

Get your adrenaline pumping in Cairns’ ultimate indoor laser tag arena with the Special School Holiday Sessions, each 90 minutes of pure energy, strategy and fun. Sessions will be running four times a day during the holidays at 10.00am, 12.00pm, 2.00pm and 4.00pm. There will also be an exciting lasertag tournament at the final 4.00pm sessions from Monday 18 – Friday 22 January – five whole days of thrilling competition!

5. Jackley’s Bakehouse

6. Cairns Libraries

Register for the Summer Reading Club Program to take part in fun activities such as the 40 days in 40 ways reading challenge and library scavenger hunt, running until 31 January. The FREE Summer Reading Club activity pack can be picked up from any library.

7. Little Pearls Swim School

At Little Pearls your child can receive ongoing swimming and water safety lessons, from just a few months old, all year round. 8. Swim Like A Mermaid

Get the full mermaid experience, feel like you’re one with the water and have heaps of fun with the Swim Like a Mermaid Experience. Most ages are welcome (boys and girls six years +) but ability to swim and confidence in the water are essential.

9. Inflatable Kingdom

10. Cairns Indoor Sports

11. Paradise Palms

14. CaPTA Group Annual Pass for Locals and Upcoming Events

16. Rainforestation Nature Park

Enjoy a fun Indigenous experience with the Pamagirri Mini Mob. Learn how to play the didgeridoo and paint your own PVC didgeridoo to keep! Or you can join a Rainforest Walkabout and become a master of the boomerang. Sessions start at 10.30am and 12.30pm daily.

17. Keepers In Training – Cairns ZOOM & Wildlife Dome

Keepers In training is a fantastic weekend activity. K.I.T allows children to experience what it’s really like to be a Cairns ZOOM & Wildlife Dome wildlife keeper, joining a wildlife keeper for an interactive, hands-on experience covering animal care, health and handling. You even get to have a photo taken with an animal to take home!

18. Wildlife Habitat

22. Cazalys Kids and Family Fun

The Cazalys Kids Room is an air-conditioned indoor Kids Play Centre. It’s a great environment for the kids to engage in fun and social activities in a specially created environment that’s just for them. The bigger kids can stay entertained on the six PlayStation terminals loaded with all the latest games. (Parental supervision required).

23. Daintree Discovery Centre 

Step into another world as the Daintree Discovery Centre takes you back 130 million years in time to when dinosaurs still roamed our planet. Meet Cryolophosaurus, the most ferocious carnivorous dinosaur of them all, or the giant megafauna such as the Diprotodon, the closest surviving relative of the wombat. 

There are six life size animatronic dinosaurs to find on your pre-historic Jurassic Forest adventure, as well the Centre’s treetop walks, 23 metre high canopy tower and more.

24. iPlay Cairns 

Age is no limit for iPlay arcades! Whether you’re a little kid or a very grown-up kid, they have something for everyone. 25. Lake Tinaroo

Come visit Lake Tinaroo and get cosy in a cabin, glamp in a camper trailer, motorhome or caravan, or go full outback in a tent. Your days can be spent exploring Lake Tinaroo by boat, on skis or in a kayak, canoe or on a stand-up paddle board. At the park there are beautiful nature walks, a jumping pillow, and a swimming pool. 26. Cairns Wake Park

Kids Club kneeboarding and wakeboarding sessions are specifically designed to be an easy learning environment for younger kids. With a target age group of 7 to 12 year olds, our professional coaches can easily ensure that all kids have a fun time while being introduced to the Wake Park in the friendliest way.

27. Frozen Wonderland Ice Skating Rink

The Cairns Ice Skating Rink at DFO will be open daily during the school holidays so get your long socks on and get ready to slide! Test your skating skills or have a casual outing with the family or friends with daily sessions between 9.30am – 5.00pm, lasting 90 minutes each. Tobogganing is also available for those who’d prefer to slide into the fun.
