Swim at Crystal Cascades

This exciting swimming hole is hidden in the heart of the rainforest. Surrounded by towering trees, the water is always in the shade and never too hot, making it the perfect place to cool off. Crystal Cascades is a local gem and popular all year round for a walk or a swim – or both!

Swim at The Lagoon

The iconic Lagoon is very well known with both tourists and locals in Cairns. This public swimming pool is situated on the edge of the ocean in Cairns city, the clear blue waters very inviting on a warm day. With lifeguards on duty and toilets and showers nearby, The Lagoon has everything you could ask for. Open from 6am-9pm.

Splash and Play at Muddy’s Playground

Muddy’s Playground has been a favourite with kids and parents alike. It is colourful, safe, fun, and it caters to children of all ages and abilities. The playground is situated along the Cairns Esplanade and features a variety of swings, see-saws, slides, puzzle games, climbing structures and water features. Muddy’s is open from 9am-7pm every day.

Have a BBQ at the Beach

Cairns features numerous free barbecue facilities for the public to use, scattered along the northern beaches and the Cairns Esplanade. These are excellent for a late afternoon family BBQ – just provide your own ingredients. Most of these facilities are situated close to playgrounds, bathrooms and car parks. Nothing beats a meal with such a beautiful view!

Play on the Natural Rock Slide at Josephine Falls

Josephine Falls is a true natural playground hidden in the rainforest. Accessible by a 700m walk from the car park, it is the ideal place to relax or go for a swim under the forest canopy. The bottom pool of the falls features an exciting natural rock slide which is an absolute favourite with both kids and parents. If you are up for a bigger adventure, there are walking tracks branching off into different directions, trail lengths ranging from 1.2-15km.
